GRIFFIN, GA: Demo can have an element of archeology.

When we started, the exisiting design was quite puzzling and very off-center.

Peeling off of most of the ceiling tile, existing stage,  and tongue & groove skirt still doesn't solve the puzzle.  But, it does show a central ridged area and impeccable original floorboards.

THEN, WE FINALLY HAVE OUR ANSWER. The final removal of the last left platform, plaster board and remaing tongue and groove skirt reveals the locations of original choir loft, choir loft entry steps, and pulpit area (all centered they must have been magnificent!) When the congregation opted to add air conditioning and put in a drop ceiling, they built a lower, off-centered stage to house the choir farther down.

VIEWED FROM THE BACK YOU CAN IMAGINE THE DRAMA OF A CENTRAL PULPIT AND MULTILEVEL CHOIR LOFT. Further exposure of the original floor, removal of the overhead ceiling frame and HVAC ducts,  plus installation of a new HVAC system below deck will create a tall, beautiful setting for new life and activity. This dignified, historic room will soon shine again with warm ambiance and marvelous acoustics. More updates soon....
